Background

The Museum of British Colonialism has been researching the impact of British Military repression in Kenya against the Mau Mau guerilla movement. Brigadier Frank Kitson, who arrived in Belfast in the early 1970’s, first developed his counter-insurgency strategies against the Mau Mau in Kenya. The PFC has also been researching the linkages between military policies used in Northern Ireland in the early 1970’s and military policies in Cyprus, Kenya, Malaya, Aden and elsewhere.

At the panel discussion, speakers from PFC and the Museum of British Colonialism will discuss the legacy of colonialism and the failure to reflect the impact of colonialism both in the body politic and within education structures. The MofBC will also air their documentary Operation Legacy (30 mins).
